nee (Huffman)

I grew up in Moscow, Ontario and my paternal grandmother was Marion Louise Young Huffman. She was the daughter of Wesley Young and Ida May Johnston of Sillsville. She married William Kerr Huffman in 1931.
My grandmother often spoke fondly of her childhood and the people of Sillsville. I am keenly interested in learning more about this side of the family. I have two Hough heirlooms passed on to me from Grandma: One from Mrs David Young (Louisa Hough) and one from her mother. I am sure some of their other descendants would be interested in hearing about these items and in seeing them. They are very precious to me.
Grandma was the best that this world had to offer. I miss her love, comfort and wisdom every day. Any further earthly connection I can establish with her would be treasured.
In the meantime, please accept my thanks and congratulations for the lovely website you have established.

My father is 75 and in declining health. His grandfather, MD Fralick, was born in Napanee. I would like to organize a trip to the Napanee area for next summer where we could view the sites, including the old Fralick farm, the location of the Fralick blacksmith shop, and anything else that might be of interest. We met Harold Fralick in about 1982 when he travelled through our hometown of Cheboygan. I have previously received Fralick genealogy materials from the L&A museum. We are descendants of Peter and Martin. Any assistance you could provide me in setting up a two or three day visit to the area would be greatly appreciated. thank you,

His wife was Catherine. Her maiden surname is Unknown or unconfirmed although Burleigh states that she was a Woodcock. The family came from the Mohawk Valley. Owen was the son of Christopher McGrath/McGrah a native of Dublin Ireland who fought in the King George War and his mother was Mary Connor daughter of Sergt Owen Connor buried at Fort Hunter. He is buried at Fort Hunter. Mary Connor's Sister was Alida Connor Wemp Richards wife of Jean Richards Loyalist.

Correction Notice:
In the Marriage notice up to 1925 for Fredericksburg, there should be a correction. It lists Annie Maria Brush (Buskard) married Joshua Anderson , Oct 24 1883. It should read Anna Maria Rush (Buskard) She had been married previously to Arthur Rush of Napanee who passed away Feb 26 1880.
I have found some interesting information on your web site as I'm writing a story on the Buskard Family Lineage and your information confirmed some of my earlier findings.

I was looking for activities for my family to participate in. We live in Verona, and since we will probably stay close to home this summer because of the cost of gas, I wanted to see what local communities were up to. I wish that communities would get together in linking to one another better. I think that it would promote tourism and perhaps if it was done well, locals would get into the habit of checking to see what's going on.

I am trying to find documented proof that The Rev George Sills, was the son of John Conrad Sills. I have enough proof that George Sills was a loyalist in his own right, but lack proof regarding John Conrad and the father son relationship. I have been to the Ontario Archives and have found George and John Conrad's land petition, but it does not mention relationships. The Toronto Branch of the UEL Society, 50 Scollard St., have been wonderful, helping me with George Sills, but I thought I might be to the people who know the Sills Family the best. It would be the icing on the cake, to hold a certificate for John Conrad and George Sills, both Loyalists in their own right.
Thanks

I am researching my great-great grandparents, Ephraim Cornelius and Sarah Palmateer. All I know is that they were both born in Canada and they married in Cramahe July 1, 1849 in the ME church. Their first child James Henry Cornelius was born in Northumberland County, Newcastle Dist. on 20 Feb 1854 and their second child, Mary Melissa Cornelius was born in St. Claire Cy, Michigan on 15 Jan 1856 so they came to US sometime between Feb 1854 and Jan 1856. I have traced them after their move to the United States. Their third child, Samuel Reaves (sp?) Cornelius is my great grandfather and was born in Indiana. I would like to know more about them and their ancestors. Am exploring the possibility that Ephraim is related to John Cornelius, a loyalist.

What families are you researching.?

Van Alstyne, some Van Slyck, some Larroway, some Crowder

Comments:

I didn't find my ancestress' death, but I did find a child born to her and 2nd husband, Isaac Crowder! This is so exciting, as I don't think anyone has found this child to date! Lydia was a Larroway, from central New York. Her husband Jacobus (James) Van Alstyne was with Sir John Johnson as he fled the Mohawk Valley, and died in the Revolutionary War, a member of the United Empire Loyalists. They had a very tough time.

I am trying to find out what happened to her and her youngest son, Aaron Van Alstyne, my ancestor. I know he married an Elizabeth Baltzly and they had my ancestress Phebe Van Alstyne in 8 Jan 1803 in Springfield, Erie, PA, and she married Barnet Cole, Jr., an Erie Canal worker, in Ashtabula.

I am finding wonderful information on the movements of Jacobus (James) Van Alstyne and his wife, Lydia Larroway, and their children. But other than the times she filed after the Rev. War, I draw quite a few blanks in that area of the ancestors. I am trying to fill those in. It isn't easy from way out here in the U.S. Western States!

I find I need a definite death date and place for Jacobus(James) Van Alstyne thought to be 1778 in Montreal, and one for Lydia Larroway Van Alstyne Crowder (Crouther)thought to be 1794 in Fredericksburgh; how her son Aaron came to be in Pennsylvania, probably at the shore of Lake Erie, where and how he lived his life, when and where he married, and when and where he died, thought to be after 1802, and my guess would be somewhere around Ashtabula, OH.

Whew! That's a lot of information, isn't it? If you can suggest to me where I might look for any of this information, I would be delighted to hear of it!

I think you have a wonderful website! I found much information of value to my family names search (all of whom I know are related to me in some way, some I even know the connections) in your transcripts of the births, baptisms, marriages and deaths.

Thank you!
Carolyn R

Comments:

The site has been very useful to me and I hope to be able to flesh out some of the descendants born in Canada to Henry and Catherine Young. I have their family prior to the move from New York State as well as Henry's line back to Dunzweiler, Germany about 1625. Henry's grandfather, Heinrich Jung arrived in NYC in 1710 with the Palatine immigrants, settling at Schoharie, NY. I had not been able to locate Henry and Catherina's resting place until now, with the information you have from Rev. John Langhorn's registry. Their sons Peter Young and Stephen were also missing from my records. Thank you very much for the good information and for your excellent website.

Had a great time looking thru your research
I live on Vancouver Island BC Canada and most of our families
were in Ontario not always where. Also my Great Aunt who's 91
now said that the Clapp's and McCallums she said that was where the Loyist came in but I'm not really sure what she meant. So when your
site showed Loyalist I was impressed but I really don't know what that means.

I have a copy of a document from Walter Stevens Herrington who was a member of the Ontario Historical Society & President of the Historical Society of the County of Lennox & Addington & custodian of the archives of said society dated February 13, 1917. It say that Phillip Switzer was one of the first settlers of said county & one of the original members of the Loyal Rangers of the forces of King George the Third, who refused to join the revoluntary party at the time of the American Revolution. He join the Royal Standard who emigrated to Canada. The British Government rewarded him by granting him a large tract of land in this county & the neighborhood was known as Switzerville. At the time of Mr. Herrington's letter, the post office was still know as Switzerville Post Office. Also it says that Phillip Switzer was awarded also the honorary title of United Empire Loyalist, a title conferred by His Brittanic Majesty upon all British subjects who previous to the Treaty of Separation in 1783, joined the Royal Standard of King George III & all descendants are eligible to membership in the United Empire Loyalist Association. I am trying to trace my family history; is there any way to obtain more information on the descendants of Phillip Switzer?
