I first attended No. 4 school, South Fredericksburgh between 1870 and 1875 it
was known as Parma school. The seating
was one continuous seat on each side of the building, scholars facing one
another with a walk between. The
ceiling was plastered. The building
looks about the same from the outside as at that time. Of course the wood shed has been added and
the lighting changed some. |

Young, that No. 4 Parma School be closed at the end of June, and that Mrs.
Irvine Brooks be advised her contract as caretaker will cease at this time.

by M. Young, seconded by B. Cuthill that the Ontario Hydro be advised that
the board wishes to have their hydro contract cancelled at No. 4 Parma
School. CARRIED. South Fred School Board Minutes, April 6, 1963: Moved by W. Haight, seconded by
R. Powell, that the building formerly No. 4 school, South Fredericksburgh, be
advertised for sale by tender. The buyer to pay cash at time of acceptance of
tender. The building to be removed from No. 4 school property within six
months of acceptance of tender. The tenders must be in the hands of the
secretary-treasurer not later than 4:00 p.m. Daylight Saving Time, May 11,
1963. The highest or any tender not necessarily accepted. CARRIED. |

by R. Powell, seconded by W. Haight, that the secretary be instructed to
engage a lawyer to investigate the deed of no. 4 school property and to
request permission from the Department of Education for the sale of same.
CARRIED South Fred School Board Minutes, Sept 14, 1963: Moved by W. Haight, seconded by
R. Powell, that the tender of $100.00 from Evan Brooks for the No. 4 (Parma)
school site, be accepted subject to the terms of the sale of the building on the
same premises. And that the board withhold the transfer of the title until
the building is removed on or before November 11, 1963.
